Who Am I?

Henry

My name is Henry. I’m just an ordinary guy. I grew up in suburban Maryland with my three brothers and I still live in suburban Maryland, now with my wife (and when I started this, my daughter, but she’s grown up and moved out). As you might gather from this blog, I enjoy taking pictures. I’m not a photographer by trade and if I were, we certainly wouldn’t live as well as we do. Still, I take my camera with me pretty much wherever I go and use it fairly often. As for subject matter, it’s pretty much whatever I come across. I like being outdoors and I particularly like small things, so a 100mm macro lens is on my camera most of the time. Flowers, insects, and landscapes are probably my primary subjects but I’ve been known to take people pictures now and then. I’ve also done a little traveling over the years and I hope to post some old pictures here from time to time, as I scan slides, mostly from the 80s and 90s. At this point, writing this as I begin, I really don’t know what direction this blog will take. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

On January 1, 2011 I posted my first picture in my Project 365 (on Facebook), with the goal of taking at least one photo a day for a year. After the year ended, I continued taking a photo a day and posted them here. I eventually back-posted the pictures from the first year here, as well. Ten years later, at the end of 2020, I had managed to take at least one photographs every day for 3,652 consecutive days, taking over 180,000 photographs. After December 31, 2020 I decided to stop the “at least one a day” thing, but I still post photos here as I take them. I hope you enjoy at least a few of them.

The photos staring in January, 2011 were mostly taken on a Canon EOS 60D. Almost eleven years later, starting at Christmas, 2021, they are mostly taken on a Canon EOS 90D. There are exceptions, not necessarily noted in the accompanying post.

In addition to photography, I do a bit of reading. If you are interested in what I’ve been reading, I’ve posted my reading lists here since 2020. Here are links to those:

Mostly for my own reference, I’ve kept a log of the banner images used on the site on the Past Site Banners page.
