On the monument there is a soldier facing west, away from the road. On the west side, lower down, there is a dog. The dog is Sallie Ann Jarrett, the regiment&#8217;s mascot, who apparently traveled with the regiment throughout much of the Civil War. She was killed on February 1865 at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.<\/p>\n<p>North of this monument is the Eternal Light Peace Memorial, built in 1938 and dedicated on the 75<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Near the 11<sup>th<\/sup> Pennsylvania Volunteer monument is a viewing tower, that offers a nice view of the northern portion of the battlefield.
