Yep, that’s Dorothy, sitting in the road. Cathy, her responsible mother is just standing there looking at her. Meanwhile her father is taking a picture. I’d say that pretty much sums up our family.
Tommy and Jack
Dorothy and I had a great visit with the Tommy, Lauren, and Jack this evening. There may have been a little cuteness involved. We’re going to miss this family when they move.
Rainbow
Coming to work this morning there was a rainbow. With the camera sitting on the steering wheel and without actually looking through the viewfinder, I managed to get a pretty good picture.
Fall Color
There is still a lot of green around but individual trees are starting to show a lot of color. One of the maple trees in our back yard (this one, to be precise) is bright red and beautiful.
Pressing Grapes
Well, the grapes arrived after 11:00 PM last night, long after we had gone home. We went back today and helped for a little while. Cathy and Dorothy both jumped in with both feet. I fished out stems and took pictures. We were only there a relatively short while but they were nearly done with all 5,000 pounds when we left.
In this picture, Cathy and Dorothy are crushing grapes while Anna, Greg, and Greg remove stems before carrying the bins to the basement.
Dry Day Lily Seed Pod
This little seed pod is on a dwarf day lily growing in a wooden box. I had hoped to have pictures of the Glenns pressing 5,000 pounds of grapes for wine but it was fruitless hope. By 9:00 PM the grapes were still in Pennsylvania.
Zinnia Bud
We have a bunch of zinnias blooming next to our driveway. This is a bud, just starting to open. Cathy asked me to take a picture of it when I got home from work. The problem was that it was a bit breezy and it wouldn’t hold still for me, but I think it turned out pretty well.
Outlaw Sheriff
I visited the first grade today, dressed in disguise as the Outlaw Sheriff, hunting those pesky outlaw words (that don’t obey phonetic spelling rules). I had a bandana over my face (riding so far on horseback there is a lot of dust) so the kids didn’t know who I was. It was a fun time and hopefully something the students will remember.
Doing Her Homework
This is actually a posed picture. Dorothy had finished reading her Church History assignment (about the Desert Fathers). The first pictures I took didn’t have the book on her but we thought it would lend a touch of verisimilitude.
Plaza Lofts Twenty-Two
I was in Hyattsville for a meeting this afternoon and we had lunch in University Town Center. I like the look of this building, Plaza Lofts Twenty-Two, a residential building overlooking the plaza.
Keep Right
Mushroom
I know I’ve done a lot of mushrooms here relative to other things but I really like this image so I’m posting one more. This is peak mushroom season around here so there are a lot about. This one was in my front yard.
Olney Fountain
At this revitalized shopping center in Olney there is a new fountain. On warm summer evenings you’ll find children playing in the water but it was a bit chilly for that this evening. Still, there were quite a few people about and a long line for ice cream. The loss of B.J. Pumpernickel (it wasn’t forced to close, but it’s gone nonetheless) still makes us sad, though.
Running Lights
Taken on Muncaster Road, a four second exposure. I really need a dashboard-pod to mount my camera.
Dorothy’s 15th
We celebrated Dorothy’s birthday quietly at Panera with a good friend this evening. That’s one of my favorite ways to unwind (the good friend part, that is, not Panera specifically).
BWI Airport
It’s not exactly an Eero Saarinen but I’ve always liked BWI airport. Also, dropping people off there is a good excuse to stop take a short detour to G&M to buy some of the best crab cakes anywhere. They aren’t particularly cheap but at a half pound each and almost all crab meat, they’re worth it.
Jessie and Erin
Jessie and Erin, two of the vocalists in the church youth band and (of course) Dorothy’s friends.
