I didn’t have time to go out to take pictures today because I needed to pick up a car from the shop and drop off another. I grabbed a carry-out order of sashimi. Some people, my wife and daughter, for instance, will find this about as disgusting as the pictures of the dead deer from a few weeks ago. It’s made worse, I suppose, by the fact that I’m going to eat it. I did and it was delish.

It’s gotten cold again and it was raining off and on today but I went out anyway. I took a few pictures of birds but Dorothy and I both like this better than the bird pictures, so this is today’s entry. There’s a picture of a woodpecker in Extras.

James is the grandson of our good friend Amanda. He’s a little shy around strangers but can be pretty cute once he warms up to you. This is somewhere in the in between stage. He still isn’t sure about this guy with the big camera.

Today my dear mom turned 80 and we had a little surprise party for her with a few of her friends and of course the family. Thanks, mom, for everything and happy 80th birthday! We sure love you.

I took pictures at the WCA basketball game today but didn’t get anything I’m anxious to share with the world. The pictures of the fans were better than those of the game but even that’s not saying much. So, here’s a picture of reflections. This is the rec. center at the corner of Key West and Gude Drive.

This is actually more ring size, the branch is about a half inch in diameter, but in this picture it looks like a bracelet, I think. I imagine it worked in silver.

I took a lot of good pictures today of people, mostly friends from church. I couldn’t pick one as being better than the rest so I’ve decided to put them up in their own gallery and just put this picture up as my Project 365 image. I’m undecided as to whether it would look better if the pavement was in focus as well as the trees but I Like it, anyway.

The challenge: take a picture of a blank wall and make it interesting. The problem: as soon as there’s any pattern on the wall, it’s not truly blank any more. This is as close to a blank wall as I could get and still have much interest. It’s really bothering Dorothy, so that’s something, anyway.

The stream next to my office was flowing fast and furious today, with melting snow. I took a bunch of pictures of the stationary waves and this is my favorite of them.

I decided to try something a little different today so I went micro. This image is the underside of a leaf from a Gill-Over-the-Ground plant (Glechoma hederacea). The section of leaf shown is about 8 by 12 mm. It isn’t quite as sharp as I’d like. Still, the damp, soft ground isn’t the firmest base for a tripod and the wind kept moving the leaf.

Are You Frond Of Ferns?
Are You Frond Of Ferns?
Or are you Pterrified of Pteridophytes? These are the sporangia of a sensitive fern Onoclea sensibilis. Aren’t they nice? It was much warmer today and I noticed the buds on a rose were already swelling. They won’t really start to grow for a while yet, but spring will be here sooner than you think.

It was chilly this morning and ice crystals had formed on my car windshield over night. I’m not sure about the color in this but wonder if it has to do with the polarizing effect of the crystals in combination with the safety glass.
